Tonia discovers paradise in Fiji

"It's not a holiday" protests Tonia, when teased about her recent trip to Fiji to check out around 20 of the best resorts in Fiji for weddings.  Going the extra mile to collect first-hand information for her clients, Tonia braved hair-raising speedboat transfers to outer island resorts, balanced out with three massages in one week and an unrecollectable number of cocktails!

The Pearl South Pacific Resort

This was a great surprise to me.  The hotel has been there for many years but has been tastefully redecorated and a lot of time and effort has been put into the surrounding gardens.  The beach is beautiful (the best on the coast!) with great swimming in the ocean. Dotted along the beach in front of the hotel are sunbeds and tables and chairs under a thatched umbrella.  Even though I am not a golfer, opposite the resort is an incredible 18 hole golf course with amazing lily ponds that is well worth a visit -  if not for a game of golf then to eat in the restaurant with views over the course.  The resort is a 2 hour drive from Nadi or you could fly into Suva and then it’s only a 40 minute drive - but in my eyes which ever way you travel its well worth the visit.
Crusoe’s Retreat

This resort is off the beaten track but well worth the visit, a small intimate  resort with all of the Fijian-inspired bures having an ocean or lagoon view.  Nestled amongst 10 acres of tropical gardens and next to a traditional Fijian Village, you are encouraged to visit and experience first-hand the traditions and ancient customs of everyday life.  Of course there is still the famous footprint shaped swimming pool and I agree this resort is "Fiji's best kept secret'.

The Warwick Fiji Resort & Spa

This resort is still one of the best larger resorts on the Coral Coast popular with families and couples.  I like the idea of having a smaller separate pool which tends to be child-free giving couples some space from the children at the resort.  There’s a great choice of restaurants to choose from each night to eat with the Wicked Walu offering excellent seafood and of course the entertainment of sea snakes!

Sheraton Fiji & Westin Denarau Island Resorts

Both these properties are always a favourite and the refurbishment of the rooms and public areas of the Sheraton have certainly kept it a favourite.  I'm glad they didn't change the colour of the Sheraton as this is an icon.  The Westin has the traditional Fijian timber and feel about it and it’s something that shouldn’t be changed. I was fortunate to experience a massage at the Heavenly Spa and its was 'Heaven' - a must for all guests.

Malolo Island Fiji

The resort has refurbished all bures and the end result is amazing!  They are so fresh and clean looking and, in keeping with the beach theme, have ropes entwined around the table bases and drift wood on the lamp shades - a huge improvement from the bright blues and yellows.  This is a great family island but also offers an adult lounge and adults-only swimming pool, with a fine dining restaurant set up in the treetops called, of course, 'Treetops'.

Mana Island Resort & Spa

This has always been a favourite of mine and even though it’s a large resort the people are so friendly and there is always somewhere to go to get away from crowds if you want to.  Refurbishments to the Ocean View and Beachfront bures have made this resort even more amazing. I also got to experience Mana Spa on my visit which started with a foot scrub and massage leading to a full body massage using Pure Fiji products that are just out of this world.
